The Problem:
The Channel Islands fox was recently endangered. While currently less threatened, they remain a vulnerable species. Conservation scientists can only gather so much data on their own.

The Goal:​
Crowdsource data collection through the use of a citizen science app, allowing users to tag and share sightings of: the foxes; their main predators; and key prey animals.
Personas were developed based on user research consisting of a competitive audit of existing conservation apps and user interviews.
Ideation sessions yielded solutions for gaps identified in existing products. Paper wireframes were developed into a lo-fi digital prototype for usability testing.​
Usability study findings showed users had concerns about:
  1. Privacy
  2. Navigation
  3. Photo function
Designs were refined to leverage existing mental models.
The hi-fi prototype incorporated accessibility considerations and the insights discovered in the usability study.
